Funny read, this thread. I think if the manufacturers did re-badge the trucks you might eventually get people to change what they call em. But they're not gonna change it on their own.
OP, I get what your saying, but really, if you completely take the payload numbers out of your mind, and think of "half-ton" as a slang term, or nickname if you will of a general size/capability of truck, I think that's all people think nowadays. You're actually proving your own point. When someone looks at my truck and thinks "one ton", the payload never enters their mind. Just the general capability it holds compared to the other sizes.
Interesting, and valid point, but it's never gonna happen.
