The original question was why did you buy what you bought?
I bought a 2011 f450
For the f450
- at the time had the highest hp and torque
- previous truck 99 f250 that I liked
- f450 had wide track front end with consequently shorter turning radius
- 4:30 rear end provides max hp at max rpm giving less likelihood of downshift in top gear
For a Chevy
- dura max is a great engine but I hate overheating and the track record on this wasn't too clear
- the allison shifts nicer than the 6r140
- locking rear axle
Against a Chevy
- it was 3 yrs out from the 2008 crash and I wasn't sure about gm
-3:73 only option for final drive ratio
- saw some gm trucks where the body structure wasn't very solid and suffered from air leaks thru the dash
- can't disengage the front hubs
For the dodge
- cummins is a solid engine
Against dodge
- at that time cummins had a significant power and torque disadvantage
- no way I would buy an engine that used heavy exhaust gas recirc as the primary means of controlling nox international learned this the hard way
If I was buying now
I would buy the 15 f450 if I lived somewhere that I did not have to buy snow tires (no good ones available in 19.5 sizes)
At the his point I wouldn't buy the Chevy because for sure gm will be updating duramax in the near future
Dodge not in the cards for me because of previous experience with mopar products
