Wife was in a terrible car accident Tuesday night; car that hit her was apparently distracted and hit our van so hard it pushed the passenger's front and sliding door in about 2 feet. Van is totaled; other than scrapes and bruising she is all right. As you can understand, I haven't really had time to respond.
Good responses from everyone, and thanks to NC for the derail apology. I did make it abundantly clear about not bashing brands; I'm not particular to Fords, mainly due to their ongoing engine issues; coworker had to drop nearly $12,000 fixing a 20,000 mile old truck with fuel injection issues (powerstroke.org for more details on this well known issue)that Ford would not fix under warranty, claiming water in fuel issue (BS; everyone else who drives diesel trucks at work, including me, and the county, all buy their fuel at the same station.) That's my little bit of a derail. I've owned a 2000 7.3 F250 that was the worst tow vehicle on the planet; a 6000# Starcraft pushed the truck all over the road (with 10 ply tires and completely new front end wear parts on the TV and the weight hitch properly set and sway control tight). Turbo would surge with every downshift and to say the truck was gutless may be an understatement. Comfort and cab size were amazing, though. With that out of the way, I'll concede that with the 13 and newer trucks the issue seems to be solved.
After reading, and much research, my favorites are, respectively, the GM twins, Ram and Ford. Nothing in particular really stand out from each objectively (other than capacities); subjectively the GM has something going for it I can't quite put my finger on. Last GM was a 94 Silverado package C1500 my Dad bought new; I had that truck for nearly 10 years and had a lot of good memories from it. Being a 2nd time HD Ram owner, I do love the 4th gens. Everything about them says quality now. I like the mirrors and other tow features of the Fords, and I think they have the best LD transmission (the Allison and Aisin both have failure points, but I haven't read about the 6r140 failing, even under heavy abuse). Revmax has a thread about the 2 generations of Aisin on the Cummins Forum, and both have similar failure points; one of the drums was already starting to show groove wear at 6,000 miles. The Allison failures, usually, result from modding the trucks. Oversimplifications of the issues from just my knowledge base.
I have a lot of time before purchase, so the more info the better. Please keep it coming.
I did specify that it will be a KR, LH or High Country for a reason; Momma will only let me buy one if it has that "nice brown leather she likes", so it's a win-win! I get my new truck, and a whole lot more lovin from her (really likes leather :B
Someone asked how I can compare the new trucks to my 8 year old truck; please, re-read my OP and see if you can answer your question. Did you miss the purpose of this thread, or am I misunderstanding your question? That's been known to happen.
Thank you for accepting my apology...Sorry to hear about the accident, hope all will be well with your wife...
