Why you chose the TV you did

I'm starting my research to purchase another TV; it will be a 350/3500 dually 4x4 and a KR, LH or High Country. Prices range from $65k-$70k. Needless to say, the decision is not that easy.

The plan is to keep our fiver for now, eventually upgrading to a true FT rig (DRV, New Horizons) and those can get heavy (though we will be looking at more moderate sizes and weights, around 36', 16 -17k loaded). My current truck is not nearly capeable, nor comfortable, enough for FT pullling.

With all the choices, what do yoy have why did you choose it? The only truck I have yet to look at is the 15' Ford.
  • Personally, if I was looking to spend $70k on a tow vehicle for a 17,000# (possibly more) 5er I'd take a look at an MDT or HDT conversion. If you look at the horse trailer websites they also sell the used haulers. They are set up with air ride seats and suspension and have more than enough drivetrain to make a comfortable ride over any mountain. Many of them have a better turn radius than a one ton pickup.

    From personal experience it is more comfortable to drive my Freightliner than my F350 for a 500 mile day.

    My first thoughts are IF you are going to move up to something like the New Horizons.. THEY ARE HEAVY.. you will probably want a 450... At least that's what I hear..

    I have my truck because it is the one that I like...It fits all my comfort needs and drivability .... results may vary...

    Well you have a Ram now why not just get a new 3500 Dually! They are on par with an F 450.
    Anything you don't like about the current Ram?
  • Well the Ford in 2012 was much much quieter than the other two brands. The Dodge in particular sounded like a mini-tank and shook like one too. I understand that they may have improved since then. A loud truck will grind you down after long periods of driving.
  • Before we get any further;

    I'm asking for opinions about your truck, and why you chose it, so (obviously) if you could include that information it would help. For some reason, I can't see anyone's signature, if you already have it listed there.

    Yes, there may be a flood of "my truck is better", but that's what I'm asking for: why did you choose it over another brand? Something specific you didn't like? Maybe something brand F did better than brand G or R? Quieter, less transmission hunting, better brakes, they offered the color you liked? This is a subjective thread, fully understand that.

    Yes, they will all pull a fiver, but why specifially did someone decide their hard earned cash down for the TV they chose?

    We're looking at the smaller/lower weight end of the spectrum; not all DRV/NH rigs have earth shattering weights.

    What I'm not looking for is brand bashing; there is enough of that on the dedicated brand forums to last me into the next lifetime. I'm not really partial to Fords for personal reasons, but that would not exclude one from the list.
  • I don't think there is that much functional difference between the three brands. Any of them will pull your fifth wheel easily.

    But the important factor is how you and your wife like driving it. You'll be spending long days in that cab and little things that you dislike will multiply as the days and hours go by. So get the one you like the best.

    Now we will have a flood of my truck is better than your truck messages.
