It's not as serious as many think. I filled my 2011 with gas when it was very low on diesel and didn't realize what I had done till I noticed it kind of pinging. I drove it a couple more miles to a friends place and pumped the gasoline via same method as the OP into my wife's car and an old farm truck. I put about 100,000 miles on my truck afterward before selling the truck and never experienced any trouble.
