Wife says I can get new(er) Tow Vehicle !

I currently have a 2006 Chevy 1500 Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 with towing package. The camper I pull and all other junk combine to nearly max out the truck. After creeping and struggling through some mountains the past four days the boss has granted my request of a stronger truck. I really like the Chevy duramax 2500HD but am open to Fords and maybe even a Dodge. WITHOUT TURNING THIS INTO A BRAND VERSUS BRAND PEEING CONTESTS can someone point out pros and cons on each? I've only owned Chevy trucks and no little about the others. And I need to act soon, one never knows when the window of opportunity granted by the better half will close!

  • Well congrats on the boss believing your lame a** truck issue. Mine don't go for it as of yet. WTH I told her it would last 10 years almost 10 years ago, and my time is almost over this year :B Just priced a replacement at $65K and now I'm saying " you might be right dear " . Nice trucks but not sure about their price tag when your 65. The old girl is still doin fine without all the new bell and whistles.
  • All 3 are excellent. Check out all 3, both diesel and gas. There is no wrong choice.
  • Assuming your moving up to 3/4 or 1 ton decide diesel or gas. Then go checkout all three and drive them all before ever talking numbers. Each has their own personality but all are very capable these days of moving some heavy loads.

And yes this WILL turn into a brand pissing match one way or another:)
  • Hi OP, Chevy's motor is the "Duramax". "Powerstroke" is a ford thing. It truly behooves you to go out and sit in all 3 trucks and take em' all for a drive. I did it when I selected my RAM. Everybody ups their game every year. Also, if you want to wait, Ford has an all new superduty rolling out in 2017, so fall of 2016 you can probably get some really killer deals on the existing super duty trucks (but that's a little over a year away). Even though this website tends to be a little more neutral, it's also a good idea to visit forums that cater to each truck manufacturer and learn the ins and outs of each one. What are owner likes? dislikes? Issues? etc... Lastly, Nissan is also coming into the game with the XD Titan equipped with a Cummins ISV derivative. So if you're sold on diesel, you should probably consider that truck as well. Should be here in the fall I guess? If what you're hauling is still relatively light and within half-ton territory, the Ford Ecoboost motors offer low end grunt and strong pull for their weight ratings. Also, being turbo charged, they aren't nearly as affected with high altitude towing.

    Good luck!
