One of my co-workers noted having a new transmission in his Acadia and having been into the dealerships for multiple services due to shifting issue on the trans. Rode in it with him, didn't notice anything strange, but he stated it was having a good day that time we went out for a meeting. - larry_barnhartExplorerWe have an 08 GMC acadia. I could have ordered the tow package but it was not going to be a tow vechicle. That would have been a more capacity radiator and a hitch. No reason for the trannie hunting if you use the + or- on the left of the shift handle.

Those are tow vehicles?
No. They sometimes pretend to be but usually just end up blocking traffic as they eat their transmissions.

Had a 2001 Acadia, now have a 2014.
looking at 09 and 10s any suggestions on a better year than others and any changes to 3.6 ?? direct injection in 10 ??? searching internet , but this web site has been so helpful for me for many, many years.
Great vehicle BUT not for towing.
That 3.6L motor is more a greyhound than a shire horse - it has minimal torque under 3000rpms (which is where you need it for towing) but once it gets going (4000 rpms and up) it flies!
The transmission hunting up and down will get to you in the end, other than highway driving I use the manual selector on the shifter.
Minor issues with leaking water pumps and the gas mileage is AWFUL (you probably do better with the 'Burb!) but for a comfortable, quiet and roomy 7 or 8 passenger vehicle it takes some beating. - LessmoreExplorer II

I`ve driven a few. definitely not a TV for a TT. maybe a large PuP, but that's it! the engine has it`s share of problems.
What problems has this engine had, other than the previously mentioned timing chain ? - azrvingExplorerOH, you're all set with a Suburban. Good truck.
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerI would love a 2500 crew cab duramax, but no car payments, and a VERY roomy suburban keeps me from it. Cant imagine long road trips in any crew cab compared to my burb. 5 of us, dog, snacks and drinks, an sometimes an extra kid. I will get a crew cab duramax when my 12,15,17 year olds are into college and after 20 years of family camping, the wife and and dog will keep on going !!!

- azrvingExplorerI had an 2009 Traverse. I dont remember the miles on it but they sent me a recall notice for a timing chain issue. A friend has an 07 or 08 Saturn that had the timing chain go bad and I thought oh great here we go with a worn timing chain having polluted my engine. The recall ended up being a reset of the oil life monitor. They undersized the timing chain in that range of years and figured a more frequent oil change interval would help. Guess what boneheads, it already has a whole bunch of miles on it. I dont remember what years it covered but I figured Id dump it an leased 2012 Traverse.
The 2012 had a factory tow package and the 2009 didn't. There was a night and day difference between those two vehicles. The towing option is not just bolting a hitch on.
I had to move a 4,300 pound Jayco TT and the 2012 did surprisingly well. I wouldn't want to travel with it. I only used it because I had to.
When people tell you that you cant get out of a lease it's not true. You just have to throw fist fulls of money at them. I got rid of the 2012 and got a 2013 Silverado 1/2 and it pulled the little J pretty good. But the little J had people inside who were stepping on each others toes so the 2013 had to go and a CTD is now pulling a FW. Do not do as I did, take a short cut and go buy a one ton CTD now. :)
