Will a 10 mile commute kill a diesel?

Looking at a 2014 Ram 2500 diesel but will my 10 mile round trip daily commute damage the engine? Should I just get the Hemi?

  • 10 miles is plenty. I am using the diesel in my sig on a 1/2 mile daily commute right now.
  • No, it will not harm the truck. It takes 5-7 miles for mine to warm up. Once in a while, take it for a nice road trip. Also check with your dealer's service department to see if they'd recommend more frequent oil changes based on limited daily mileage.
  • My thoughts:

If you want/need the diesel, buy it regardless of your commute, but make it a point to take a longer drive once a week, once every 2 weeks minimum.

A short Monday-Friday commute is a great excuse to take a diesel on a nice long drive on a Saturday :W
  • Why do you open the door to urban legend.

My thoughts are it will be just fine.

However youo must have a need for the gtorque besides strutting it at the dairy queen. :W
  • Do you tow a lot? Unless you let the truck warm up completely, it will not be good. A gasser makes much more sense, but can it handle your trailer?
