Will copanion hitch fit....

Will this companion hitch fit in a 2017 GMC 2500HD with 6.5 foot bed and OEM installed rails/fifth wheel package? The description says it fits in 8 foot bed, but not sure why it wouldn't be usable in the 6.5? https://www.etrailer.com/Fifth-Wheel/B-and-W/BWRVK3700.html
  • I would think it does, but what do I know. Check B&W website. Only thing I can think of is why would you need a 20K hitch for a 2500?
  • Yes, if you have the factory installed FW underbed puck system, it will work. The only problem being distance from cab to FW front. This hitch says 6"s front to back adjustment, so should be no problem, with most newer FW trailers, as most have a rounded nose.

  • Thanks Jerry.
Stick dog, that link is from the B&W website. As far as a 20K hitch, no, I don't need that but I heard such good reviews about the companion hitch. Anyone here use the Curt fifth wheel hitch that is supposed to fit the factory puck system? Or other recommendations for a hitch that fits the factory system? Thank you.
  • To be fair, I've no personal experience with the Curt. I do know you will love the 3700, it is the same as the 3300 for Ford puck system. Excellent quality build, very user friendly, easy hookup/unhook, even at severe angles. Easy in/out of truck bed, two pieces...75 lbs...78 lbs. Solid fit, quiet when towing. It may be a hundred or so higher priced than others, but you will not be disappointed.

Sorry to sound like the sales guy, but just get the B&W 3700 and be done looking.

Your B&W "FanBoy" check is in the mail. ;)
  • Thanks Cummins...could you also send a new logo hat, mine is worn out...wear it everywhere except to bed.

I use a Curt Q20 with my Ram OEM puck system. The hitch works very well and installation/removal is easy.

However.....I do have an 8' bed so forward/back adjustment is not a concern for me. The positioning of the Curt hitch head is fixed so I only have vertical adjustment. With the B&W you can change the angle to pitch the head forward or aft of center. With a short bed truck that might be your best option and avoid the need for a slider. You will still need to watch the 5er corners closely.
