Winnebago towable water heater bypass

We bought a Winnebago Minnie 2101DS travel trailer in December and had it winterized by the dealer and put in storage. I'm now getting it ready to use it for the first time. The water heater was put on bypass for winterization, and now I can't find the switch to take it off bypass. Does anyone know where it would be? Thanks.

  • Very interesting topic since I also have a Minnie Winnie 2101DS, a rare white one, at least in my area. Here are some photos that I made. I couldn't get my good camera down in the tight space so I compromised and used my iPhone.

The first photo shows the panel under the sink that must be removed. The other photos are pretty much self explanatory.

    Jamie,
What you're looking for will not be a switch. There should be 3 valves on the Winne. The diagram below will show how the water heater by-pass valves are set up. Yours may not look similar to the diagram, but will be set up similar.

That's the setup in mine. Great post...thanks!

  • After buying our trailer, I did contact Winnebago about the fact that their owner's manual needs to be more comprehensive with this type of information. Perhaps if more new owners would contact them about this, they will make some imrovements in their manuals.

But, if you call Winnebago towables, you will find that they are very helpful.
  • OK...just looked at some photos of the 2101DS, and I see the outside water heater access panel on the drivers side of the trailer just to the rear of the slideout. On the inside of the trailer, that would be below the television where you have one door for a storage area. I would look inside that area for a panel that would be the access panel for the water heater.

  • On our 2201DS, the bypass valve is located under the bathroom sink, which is where the water heater is located. If you are not sure it is there, just determine where the water heater access panels is on the outside of the trailer. On our trailer, there are two panels that are held in place with two screws each. Remove both panels and you will see the water heater and the water lines to it and the bypass valve. You will also see the two valves that are used for draining the system which operate by pulling them up for the open position, down for the closed position.

Don't forget to check that the main plug is in the water heater. My trailer is kept away from our house, or I would send you a picture. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them.
  • Are you looking for the bypass valves or the electric switch to power the water heater?
The valves should be close to the water heater, inside the trailer. If you don't have a switch inside, there will be one in the water heater enclosure, accessed from the outside. Make sure you have water in the heater before turning on.
