But the lines do not self drain. You can see in the picture below that the lines contain the pink stuff after winterizing. The other two lines are my shower faucet lines.

Of course YOURS do not drain...you removed the vacuum breaker.
With OEM vacuum breaker the lines drain because the vacuum breaker OPENS to atmosphere
And those OEM vacuum breakers often OPEN when under pressure which is discovered while flushing when you see the water pouring from beneath the closed entry door.
He should of eliminated the inverted U piping arrangement when the breaker was removed. If you have fall on the line from the flush port to tank all it takes is a push on the spring loaded check valve in the port after disconnecting your hose and it drains into the tank.
