You have been EXTREMELY lucky. The problem happens at temps just below freezing, not really cold temps. Damage from freezing occurs while the lines are freezing because when converting from liquid to solid water expands. After the ice gets colder it shrinks a little with temperature.There is enough thermal mass around a camper that you can survive a few frosts without issue, but you are playing with fire (well ice actually). Plastic water lines also have a better sense of humour.
