This is not necessarily true. Two group 29 12 volt may provide more amp-hours. If a large inverter (1000 watts and up) is to be used twelve volt jars may work better.
Life span is often more a function of how the battery bank is treated--especially in the area of charging.

Since you are probably going to have to buy two new batteries, you would be best off to buy two 6V golf cart batteries at Sam's Club or Costco at about $80 ea. They will provide a lot more amp hours capacity than two 12V batteries, and will last a lot longer.
