Wolf Creek 840/850

I have narrowed my search for a truck camper and to these two are at the top of my list. I need to plan a road trip to look at one soon. I decided on these mainly due to the lighter weight, decent size holding tanks and full features.

One thing of interest is they seem to have a lower profile. Exterior height at 7'7" seems to be around a foot shorter than most others. I'm not sure how they accomplish that. There are tanks under the floor and a 6'6" interior height, so the tanks must be fairly low profile. Might be just the ticket to fit under a 12' door.

I am curious to see how the rear bath vs front bath feels when inside the camper.

I noticed the front pass through window seems to be offset. I am wondering how that affects visibility through the camper. It also seems using the pass through to a rear truck window is not optimal.
  • Oh my gosh, I might have to bring some Lego to build on my trip. That table is a tad small but given the limited space in a truck camper, it does make for more room. Thanks for the picture.

I was originally looking at a Lance 855, but once I weighed my truck, it became clear that I would be running on the edge for GVW. I really want a generator. I don't really need an oven, so talk about a great fit!

I only wish they were easier to find. I really would like to see a 840 and 850 side by side, but might just buy the first one I come across. Nearest 840 I can find is a day's drive and the closest place I found that had both in short bed would be two long days away.

I tend to think I would like the 850 more since the bed area would be more open and a TV could serve double duty. I do like the extra grey water capacity in the 840 though so doubt I would be unhappy with it.

I wish someone would make a youtube video of the 840.

You will enjoy either model. Some options are only available from the factory, so make sure you look at them as much as which floor plan you prefer (pre-wired for generator, blocking for ladders/awnings, type of windows, exterior shower, etc).

Yes the window is offset, but you can still see vehicles or your trailer behind you.
  • Yeah great choice, I believe the WC 850/840 are the best non slide campers on the market. The combination of aluminum frame, huge holding tanks, above average dinette size, huge bunk bed, above average counter space, and the most storage I have seen in an 8' camper make it the leader in the market right now.

Yes you are correct, in that it has a basement, but is much smaller size than your standard basement campers. This gives it a smaller overall height. The pass thru window is no problem to see through your rear view mirror. I actually removed my pass thru window and used a inner tube to create a weather tight seal. My kids were able to crawl through.

You're making a great decision. Can't go wrong with either one model. The basements are smaller than the one's found in the Arctic Foxes so that's why the tanks are smaller, but still, having a basement means more floor space with relatively large tanks for a lightweight truck camper.

The rear bathroom feels fine. It is higher up which requires a step up to get into it but it's not that big of a deal. The reason for the additional height is because the bathroom sits over one end of the black tank.

Yes, the window is offset, but I can still see through it fine for rear highway visibility. Due to it's size it's really not practical to pass anything through it but maybe a sandwich or small pet.
  • It might be lower in the bed because its a non slideout model. Slideouts usually have basements.

It should handle nice. I noticed a big difference when I changed campers from a slide to a non model set up on the same truck with the same EQ.

My window is also offset. I never use it because I drove trucks when I was working. I'm accustomed to using my mirrors all the time.

1/2 the time I'm towing a utility trailer , all I would see is a utility trailer tailgating me.
