The less you extend a jack, the more stable it will be. I always use blocks unless I need to put the tongue almost to the ground. My blocks are 6x6 that I cut into 16" blocks and stapled a rope to them for a carry handle. I coated them with some Thompson's Water Seal to keep them mostly clean. I just stack them in the passthrough no matter the condition. I don't put anything in the passthrough that needs to stay clean. Every once in a while I'll pull everything out of the passthrough and vacuum all of the dirt that's piled up.
