working on camper

recently my wife and I bought a 20ft Shamrock Forrest River camper. We have some water damage on our fold down bed in the front right along the hinge. We are thinking we can replace the wood ourselves. Never worked on a camper before but I'm somewhat of a handyman. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. We got a estimate that was way to high so we want to do it ourselves and save a few bucks.
  • Pics to come, figured it out. I just have to get them from my sons tablet to my computer.
  • Billbeat, Here's a thread on posting pictures, would like to see yours if you get it figured out.

I'm taking it that's what you attempted.
  • P.S. I took pictures as took things apart , just rebuilt everything with new wood screws and glue.
  • I had water damage in the floor and around the front fold out bed in my 2008 Coyote hybrid. Same as you quotes were way too high. I managed to replace a 4' x 8' section of the floor, removed the whole bed assembly replaced all the wood around it and put it back together myself. It was stressful and hard work but I did it. Got some advise from some carpenter friends and the local RV service guys.Cost me less than a $100. I'm only a little handy , it wasn't as difficult as I thought , Trailer is more solid than new plus I felt great when I was done. Go for it !
  • You can buy the door wall section as a unit from forest river that would fit into the existing door. I think its only a few hundred dollars, might save some time to go that route.
  • quite a few have done this repair.
you could do a search here, in the Hybrid forum, for posts from those that did it.

first, find where the water got in, before tearing it all apart.
  • Be prepared to cover the camper with the end open
All repairs cost twice what you think
And take three times as long :)
