Working underneath a trailer--best way to do it?

When I work under any vehicle I use "Jack Stands" to support it and back off the bottle jack to make sure stands are set right. Then I raise the bottle jack to just touch axle or frame as a backup support.
For getting under vehicle I use big sheets of cardboard on the concrete to slide on, they are quite slippery and a lot easier to slide on then the concrete.
