Try one of those half inch camping firm foam pads used for sleeping on the ground. They make a lot of difference and you can cut then to a smaller size if you don't need the full length. I use smaller sections for knee pads when I am kneeling to work on checking tire presssure.
I keep a full length one rolled up in the bed of my truck so I always have something soft to lay on even if we are on the road (pulled over on the shoulder) or camping. Our trailer has its spare tire mounted on the underside of the trailer so that would be fun getting under there if you need to change a tire.
