I used to pull my 28' StarCraft 2700 BH with a similar setup...5.3L engine and 3:42 rear-end and mine had a "towing package". The TT is just a shade under 6,000 lbs loaded (well below it's GVWR of 7,000) and it wasn't all that much fun. The truck could do it, but even with something that light it always felt underpowered. There was plenty of motor, just wasn't geared right, and I'm not one that likes to listen to the motor whine in 3rd gear mile after mile.
I kicked around putting a 3:73 rear-end in it for a short time but then we started talking about a bigger camper (which was supposed to have happened by now but keeps getting pushed back). I finally went with a 3/4 ton Diesel and I couldn't be more happy about that decision. With this camper, it's sort of like driving 16 penny nails with a sledge hammer, but when the new camper finally happens I'll be even happier.
