Would a Chevy 1500 HD be a good truck to tow with?

I used to tow with a 1/2 ton and added air bags etc. a friend told me I should have bought a 3/4 ton in the first place. I hate it when he's right. like night and day difference in towing my 25 ft I had back then. I now have a 35 ft and am thinking of a diesel and a one ton.
