If what you say is true something is wrong with it.

If others are holding 4th-5th towing large trailers in the mountains and yours is shifting into "3rd gear up every hill" it's time to have that thing looked at.

BUT, Git Dog is comparing a VASTLY HEAVIER F250 to a VASTLY LIGHTER F150. Git Dog is NOT taking in account that the F250 weighs in at well over 1100 lbs MORE than the F150 Git Dog Supposedly had.

I call B.S.tuff on Git Dogs post.

You simply can not drive a F250 like it is stolen and hope to get ANY reasonable mileage.

I have NO problem getting 15.1 MPG-15.5 MPG empty high way and so far towing 7K lbs I am getting 9.1 MPG - 10.1 MPG and this thing hauls it like that 7K is nothing. I have no problem with 8%-11% grades towing, has plenty of power and I have never needed to floor it to make these grades well above the speed limit while towing.

Git Dog also doesn't understand, the 6.2 is a drive by wire, the COMPUTER does not let this engine scream off the line. No, it is programmed to hold back some power from a stone still start to avoid breaking traction. Once you get above 20 MPH it simple lets it rip and boy the fun starts :B If you WANT to break traction I understand you can get a "tune" which removes the throttle delay..

If Git Dog wants a 8000 lb truck to act like a Nascar racer then perhaps you need to get rid of the truck and buy a race car. After all, it IS a truck and as far as I can tell it is fully ready to haul a couple of race cars on its back and never bat an eye at that load.

The problem is, they don't have all the problems with the v-6 Ecoboost worked out now, and that is the MAIN reason that I'm not considering one at this point.

I'm going to speculate that when they get the CAC problems worked out with the current ecoboost, then they are gonna turbocharge the 5.0, have problems with it for 5 years, have another lawsuit filed against them, FINALLY get the problems worked out with that engine in the year 2030.

By then, all vehicles will be powered by the matter/antimatter warp reactors similar to what is being used in the USS Enterprise....so it will be a mute point.

I can give my nickels worth of experience

2000 V10 CC 4x4 430 gears. I had a lance 845 Cabover towing a wrangler. Never, NEVER any problem with power. I could do 75 up the grapevine here in Calif or highway 80 over the sierra's fully loaded towing the jeep. The only problem I had was range. there were times I would only get 160 miles out of the tank on the short bed. The engine was flawless. Other than changing the oil I never worried about a HPOP, or Injector, or water in the fuel or any of that stuff. But I talked myself into a succession of the following diesels

2001 Dodge Cummins, Nice truck. Lost a few fuel pumps along the way. Nothing like sitting on the side of the highway in the rain with big rigs blowing by while your wife stares at you. Got rid of it as the cab wasnt big enough with the kids

2003 Chevy Diesel. Blew though 3 injectors in 50,000 miles, life is to short

2007 Ford F350 6.0. I don't even know where to begin. (Did I mention the part about sitting on the side of the road waiting for AAA while your wife stares at you?)

So now I am in the market for a new truck. In hindsight, I am sorry I sold the 2000 V10, it was the most trouble free engine in a truck I have owned.

I will retire in a few years and the fact is I probably won't drive more than 15000 miles a year in the truck. I want to get both a cabover for when it is just me fly fishng and a small 5th wheel for when the wife wants to come along

I just can't see myself towing one of those grand masters, you know 36-40ft 5th wheel. But I know everyone says you will always upgrade

I am just sick about worrying if some gas station has to much water in the fuel, or if I pull in with a 5th and can't get to the single diesel pump, or 8 years from now when I am fully retired the engine sucks a single injector for a $3000 repair

I like power and torque as much as anyone else. but I have lived on both sides of the fence.

What I am trying to hold out for is to see if Ford gives the 6.2 the old Ecoboost treatment. If they do that, you can forget diesel for me

from what I read, the difference is 4:30 gets 1 mpg less. Not much difference. The rule of thumb with the 6.2 seems to be towing above 10,000 lbs get the 4:30.

I have the 3:73 and empty it shift out of 1st pretty quick, I doubt there is in city mpg difference.

I have a theory,but need someone to add their .02 worth. I would think that a truck with the 4.30 rear end would get better in-town gas mileage as opposed to the 3.73's. My thought is that with the 4.30's you will be able to get the truck moving from a stop with less gas pedal.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated because I'm looking at getting a truck this fall, and this is one of the decisions that I'm tossing around.
