FYI the 6.2 from GMC/Chevy is currently only available in their half-ton trucks. Think 2015 will be a iron block direct injected version for the HD trucks. Their HD trucks still run with the 6.0 Vortec 6-speed transmission combo.
Ok thank you - I didn't know that. This thread was the first I'd heard about a GM 6.2.

I have the 6.2 in my 2011 F250. Does fine with a 10,500lb toy hauler trailer. Use tow haul mode and the trans almost never goes into 6th gear except downhill. Up hill climbs can drop to third gear and on a rare occasion even second gear up a steep climb. No problem tows fine avg of 8mi per gallon towing and 12.5 empty in mixed driving.
I think I can live with those mpgs. What kind of towing speeds do you run, and what kind of terrain do you tow in? We live in SC but make a few trips up to VA in the summer.

Towing our 7600# 33 ft trailer is pretty boring with our 2011 F250 6.2. Family of 4 with a load in the bed and it hums along. Never had it slow down while clmbing through the Cdn Rockies...it just drops a gear (or 2) and rumbles along nicely.
Ahh I would like boring. Not that our truck is a slouch but when it gets hilly I do have to work my speed a bit to keep up the momentum up the other side!
Thank you guys for all the feedback. I'll tell you the more I read, the more I'm challenging myself about my personal "need" for diesel. I'll admit that if money were no object I'd get the diesel hands down, but it really appears that I can save some $$ and still have a capable truck. Life happens and there are other things to pay for / save for and this 6.2 might be the ticket for me. I'm slowly being converted...
Here's some reading I've come across, probably old news to everyone. 7% and 16% grade test with 10k trailers. What really caught my eye was how the Ford 6.2 gas was actually a smidge faster up the 16% grade than one of the diesel rigs. Please I don't mean to start up an argument or anything and I'm sure it's apples and oranges but it shows me how competitive the gassers can be:
PickupTrucks.com 7% grade pullPickupTrucks.com 16% grade pullConsidering that one of my frequented climbs is Fancy Gap, VA (which approaches 5%) this is quite an interesting read...
I think what I'm going to eventually have to get used to though is a high revving engine when it downshifts up the hills. Anyone get annoyed by that, or does Ford do a good job of keeping all the bad noises out but still letting you hear the engine sing?
On edit: I too would consider a dually but they seem rare with the gas engine and any amount of options. There is a guy local to me who is selling a 2011 Lariat 6.2; wish the timing weren't so off or I'd be looking at it! Seems like the only one around for miles...
