Would you buy again?

To answer the OP question:

From a financial standpoint - If I had to turn in my '12 truck which is already paid for I would not purchase the same brand of truck.

From a Safety standpoint - I will not offer that advice nor should you take anyone's from this forum either. I think you answered you own question in your original concern.

BTW... Don't let others confuse reliability issues with safety issues. The safety issue is a the top of all attributes by a long shot and anyone who knowingly put peoples safety at stake should deal with criminal charges.

I thought I would add more: Our family farm/ranch business has a 07 Dodge RAM 3500 DRW. Even though this truck is not included in this recall I'm paying close attention to what's the real issue here. This truck is mainly used to pull a gooseneck cattle trailer towing mostly cattle and our horses.

I'm not sure what differentiates a 07 from a 08 truck that's included in the recall.

Funny IB, I bought a 1976 F250 4x4 new back in 76 and yes it had the tank right behind the seat. And it was small at that so I added a plastic tank that was outside of the frame and the fill hole was in the rear driver side wheel well. Nobody died in it that I know of although it was stolen in the early 80's. Nice truck but I wouldn't buy it today knowing more information.
Steering problems have been a issue with Rams for years, you just have to know what to keep a eye on. No worse than a early PSD 6.0 or GM brake lines or GM pump rub. To know the known issues with any vehicle is certainly a wise move.
Yes I'd buy the Ram I just sold in a heartbeat if I needed that big of a truck again. Just know it's weakest link as they all have em.
Bottom line though is the recalls were not handled correctly by Ram. That is the reason for the fine.

I have a 2013 RAM 1500 5.7 Hemi SLT and tow a Jayco Hybrid X23F. I love the truck and have had no issues with it. I get around 11 - 12 MPG towing so I am happy with the performance. IF you need more information on the recall program you can go to the RAM Forum at http://www.ramforumz.com/ where you can find the list of truck, recall information, and even the actual court order.

Yep - I would definitely buy another RAM.

I have a 2012 Ram 2500. Trying to find out if my truck falls under the buyback program. I checked the Blue Book value on my truck and it's about $1000 more than I paid for it new. if a dealer offered me the BB value, I may seriously consider trading it back for another Ram 2500 or Ram 3500.

If I had a truck that was subject to the buyback I'd probably just fix up the front end with aftermarket parts and call it a day. That would eliminate the issue for a lot less money than trading in and taking on a new set of payments for a new truck.

If I did the buyback, I would buy a Ram again - from personal experience I can tell you the 2014+ are awesome trucks. I shopped all three before I bought earlier this year and for my purposes I concluded that the Ram was really the obvious choice at this point in time. Key words being "for my purposes" - they're all nice trucks with positives and negatives to consider.

Frankly all three manufacturers have had their share of issues over the years that could give anybody pause, which has made the GM/Ford fan posts the last day or two around here rather amusing. I guess you take your shots when you can.

My previous truck was included in this buy back (2009 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 w/6.7 CTD). If the current owner sold this truck back to the dealer, I would buy it back from the dealer in a heartbeat. Only sold that truck because of a pending deployment overseas. Great truck!

I think the thread was intended to be about the Ram pickups. But, since the Jeep issue was brought up, yes, this is correct, the Jeeps met all safety requirements that were in place when they were manufactured. Maybe the rear crash standards a few years ago were not as good as they are today, but the point is that the Jeeps were in compliance with the regulations when they were built. Sounds like my 1974 Ford Pinto!

I think at the end of the day many people will mistakenly believe they will get all their money back. When in fact they will get some money, just like a trade in. At the end of the day, each person is going to have to decide if the offer is worth taking to into debt for a new truck. Personally, I would ask them to fix it right, and go camping.
BTW my 07 is also on a recall for air bag issues.
Would I buy a Ram again? Sure, if I was shopping, which I am not.
