Fictitiously offer something at a price (MSRP in this case?) no one would pay and then mark it right back down to a point where you make a nice profit AND the buyer thinks they are getting a great deal. Everyone is happy. The issue is how ridiculous was the MSRP in the first place. The more ridiculously high the sweeter the "discount" would seem. You still make money and the ripoff occurs when the deal price is still much higher than what it is worth.
Then there is the question of "worth" ... varies from person to person.
