How can you estimate the vehicle's towing ability with nothing on the ball? Passing gear is not going to be used with 6-7000 lbs. behind you, at least not for passing acceleration. Likewise, off the line speed.
Since you have all kinds of reasons that the GM vehicles are better, pick one and focus on getting enough weight handling for your needs. As you state, this vehicle would be dedicated for towing the trailer and little else. I'd also suggest you try a couple of trucks. You may like one, who knows.
