We have had some good people that have made real contributions to the forum quit posting after being embarressed...
If a kind person would feel the need to correct someone they'ed send a PM....
... a jerk would want to prove they are superior by calling someone out in public... someone they don't know is even better...
I always take up for the victim...
BTW... I don't think that I've ever heard a redneck correct a strangers verbal mistake... in print either
You offer good reading... with much to ponder. On the surface, purely from the stand point of "if you don't have something nice to say...." you of course make great sense.
But on the other hand.....
One of the problems we of the 'not so young generation' see is the effects of "just let it be".
Not sure I'm liking where that is turning out either. Case in point; when some self centered person is talking on the phone in line at the grocery store, not paying attention, etc, do you roll your eyes and not say anything, think it's ok and just MYOB, or point out the rudeness (politely is a good idea)? Is peer pressure always a bad idea? Our manners a bad idea?
Which brings me to the point of your statement: I agree it's a fine line when offering up a correction. On the one hand, it's a public forum. On the other, are we so thin skinned we think we know it all and can't handle a polite helping hand? How many times have we all read someone's post that rambles without any punctuation and completely ignored what they were trying to say...because it was too painful to get through? Are you a fan of throwing spelling out the door just because someone might get their feelings hurt? I suggest that is one of the problems we have in our schools now. How's that working?
Still, I agree a lot with your post. Not sure where the perfect line is. But I do offer that the 'correction' offered was about as quiet and polite as it can be, minus as you offer, a PM. Yet, by publicly offering up the assistance, many others can (and hopefully) will learn from it. Not a bad trade off perhaps.
I have to agree with Reality Check on this one. Society seems to be too concerned with political correctness instead of what is corrrect. - jimh406Explorer IIIOn the other hand, I think most of the lights on TCs weren't built specifically for TCs. ;)

You have trailer lights for your truck camper taillights.
?I am not understanding, 1 the lights are not restricted for trailer only use. Those box lights have been in use for ever, various designs actually came on a lot of trucks, probably still do on some chassis. Walk into most any parts house and thats what you would find. Have reflectors and side markers-bought in pairs one would have license plate light.
Looks like owner of the camper shown uses it-added some storage boxes & mounted a spare which obscured sight of truck taillights (camper doesn't have 'em). Goes to parts house and wires in some lights...and that elevates him to a redneck?
Im thinking more should mount them if that is the case. But I jest cause it sounded like you meant as a self demeaning comment. Which I understand even less...
Sometimes it seems as though when folk do something, makes it work, either by materials, budget, expertise or desire, don't meet some make believe threshold of polished perfection beyond function is not worth doing, less that it should be seen. I probably misinterpreted thrust of this thread but just kinda groping for a point?
That and correcting someones spelling and grammer- jesh cant imagine. Likley still has all the lil gold stars saved from grammer school-dont wanna hurt thier feeling so just ignore, 'corse I didnt realize till it was pointed out there was a stumbling block that kept reader from gleaning the intent.
I like the comment 'creative engineering' :) only positive comment Ive read. Since Im ramblin heading back to the holler,
Maragret had just taken down the laundry from ladder
Dont know if tractor utility lights qualify or the CB antenna wire drapped down the side. Ive gotten a few comments about the poo bucket on the bumper.
When lucky, often as not theres no one around
Though even when we dont get far off the main road
Still.. the last thing we are is embarassed, spelled correctly or not. - profdant139Explorer IISo this redneck RVer gets lost in Boston and stops outside Harvard Yard. He asks a young man, "Hey, y'all, where's the freeway entrance at?" The young man gives him a long and contemptuous lecture on why it is incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition.
The redneck pauses and says, "OK, I got it. Now, where's the onramp at, you --- ----?" - cbshoestringExplorer IIGawd is I glad I git a calledge ejukashun, sure hate peoples be judgeing my speling an gremmar.
