I bought a new F-250 in 1982, I was 32 years old. Basically stripped regular cab. Dealer added A/C. 300 cu.in. inline 6 cylinder. 4 speed manual with granny gear transmission. It had the heavy duty twin I-beams but a F-150 rear end. 7.50x16 bias ply tires. A co-worker told me he was selling his cabover camper, I bought it for maybe $2,000. It was a Tejas brand, 8ft., made in Beaumont TX. All aluminum including the roof, wood framed, roof A/C, stove, sink, recirculating toilet. I loaded it up and it sure felt heavy. I didn't know what a CAT scale was. The wife and I decided to go through Oklahoma and into Arkansas. We got into some high winds and I thought the truck was going to flip over. Apparently the oncoming traffic thought so too, some of them pulled over on the shoulder. When we got back I put over load springs on the rear axle. Pretty much solved the sway issue. We went on a lot of trips in it, Arkansas fishing, our hunting lease on weekends, up to Yellowstone, and several hunting trips to Colorado. When the kids came along it just got too small and we bought a new 1987 Travelmaster class c. Kept that until the kids summers got too busy for long vacations. Retired and got a 5th wheel, then the Montana, then added the Bigfoot.
