CajunAvion, I have though a lot about towing a boat with Argo. Before I took the leap and decided to mount Argo permanently on the truck chassis, I figured I would use a 36" extension bar from the existing hitch on the truck and use turnbuckles on each side to create tension and prevent the extension from moving around while towing. I think Torklift has a such system all figured out. Pricey, however!
Argo will have a custom hitch built much like the torklift system: 33" extension bar and supporting structure attached to the very heavy duty factory hitch that came on the truck from Ford.
Not sure I'm willing to put a boat on the roof. The rig is tall already and getting a rigid boat on and off could be sporty!
The inflatable concept is a good one. I've paddled inflatable kayaks and been pleased with the stability and comfort and seaworthiness.
Progress being made here in smoky CA. Side storage compartments being skinned this week and then Argo will be lifted up, set down on the frame on the truck chassis, and everything bolted together and sealed.
Pics when that happens.
Onward!
