You're right, I'm sure the tarp shields the top of the camper and extends the life of the sealants and plastic materials from the sun since it is covered 8 months of year.

For sure. 100% agree.
The “dont cover it” folks generally fall into 3 categories.
1. Frequent campers who would be covering and uncovering frequently. Understandable
2. Too lazy or cheap or both. And will ask why camper is faded, how to clean nasty roof, or why does my camper leak.
3. Don’t care. Or simple enough to think that because they are technically waterproof that it’s fine.
And to your point, mold inside is almost certainly not an effect of covering the outside.
