FORD 6.0 Liter Repairing The Fuel Supply System

VIDEO: FORD 6 Liter Repairing The Fuel Supply System

I cleaned, blew out the fuel lines, installed a new Motorcraft fuel pump, and a FORD Blue Spring fuel pressure service bulletin upgrade kit made by International. I test the fuel pressure before and get less than 45 psi, after the new parts and blue spring kit, I got 65 psi. The PO262 code for Injector #1 went away, but the PO283 code for Injector #8 remains. It appears after repairing the fuel delivery system, I will most likely still have to replace the numbers 1 and 8 injectors. I have proper fuel delivery and the HPOP high pressure oil system is working properly. The FICM tests at 50.5 volts so that is most likely good. It may be that this engine ran with inadequate fuel supply which could have caused internal damage to Injectors 1 and 8. AT the insistence of the Unknown Mechanic I will go along with an experiment to see if ARCHOIL oil additive will restore proper function to the injectors. If no results within a couple days, I will begin to remove the valve covers and other parts to replace the number 1 and 8 injectors. I will replace the stand pipes and dummy plugs with the newer upgraded parts. I will also replace the high pressure regulator valve. There are no indicators that anything is at fault with the high pressure oil system but I will upgrade anyway as a precaution. I am open to knowledgeable suggestions and so will others reading this in the future. Thanks for your input.

  • I’ve heard good things about Archoil from HPOP super duty owners. Those trucks (all of the , even the 7.3) are sooo finicky on oil.
As for the rest of the light duty diesel world they/we don’t use that stuff and no need to.
I did have to put a new turbo actuator on my Ram Cummins just now at 130k miles. Kinda expected but kinda upsetting. First actual semi major repair (not including normal wear parts).

just good quality oil with regular changes is all you need on the 7.3 and the rest.  I actually had a bypass filter on my 7.3 and did oil analysis to see when it had to be changed, I did filters every 15000miles and complete oil change every second filter change and everything was with in spec.

Hmmm, we have dualing opinions on Archoil or Snake oil, depending which side of the isle you stand. Whether or not Secret Sauces work can be debated. I'm not one of the faithful,  but I did give it a try. No love for me and I will be taking the engine apart shortly. Need to build an elevated walk around the front of the truck for easier access to the engine.

        Let the fun begin!

    was that off or running?

if your going in to change 2 injectors that you suspect were caused by low fuel supply , change them all out and be done with it.  you can get a good set of rebuilt ones.

if you can wait there are places that rebuild your injectors for about 800 bucks, if you can't wait it is just over 1K for a set.  while your under the valve covers replace the glow plugs also, they are cheep.

  • Man I hope by a “good deal” you meant they paid you to take that truck off their lot.
Thank god you got the leaky freeze plug F2fiddy to drive…..
It’s hard to turn down those “deals” but one must resist the urge….

I did buy the truck with the expectation of having to do some work and dump money to it. I have about a thousand into it so far regarding setting the truck up for the truck camper. Another thousand to go for rear slider window and build another shelf system in the back seat to better organize and to accommodate the cats.

Mechanically, I have about a thousand into it so far. I expect another couple thousand when all said and done. Based on everything else I've learned about this truck, I'm very happy with it. I expect to change injectors 1 and 8. Possibly a couple other items like stand pipes and dummy plugs. The fuel supply system is working great, delivering 65 psi constant. The damaged fuel regulator Oring delivering low and slow fuel pressure is most likely what caused the injectors to start sending codes. Injector 1 no longer codes. Injector 8 sends PO283 but no longer sends the contribution code. I will change 1 and 8 and that should resolve the problem. The 65 psi fuel pressure should prevent any further damage to the injectors.  Putting new oil and filter in today and, Archoil oil when it gets here, then give it a couple days running chance to do it's thing. If no results, then Doctor Jeff will perform open heart didsel Injector surgery. I'll change the F250 oil too.
