Holiday Rambler TC with a tag axle?

We were walking through town on our way from dinner when we came across a very peculiar looking RV. For all we knew it first looked like a TC, but then again there is no way this HUGE beast could be a TC. Maybe a fifth wheel? Nope. It definitely was a slide in that hung off the back about 6 feet. I couldn't see a tag axle, but it was dark out and it was 3 cars deep on a scary warehouse property. I know it wasn't a born free tag axle TC as it said Holiday Rambler. So did Holiday Rambler make a HUGE TC with a tag axle? I can't find a pic anywhere.
  • the add says that each wheel on the tag axel has an "airbag". I am assuming that this would allow the axel to conform and keep the camper in the bed without doing any damage to the frame. Not sure if I could find parts to for the airbag as I am sure it no longer functions.
  • If you removed the tag axle it would make an interesting TC for a MDT with a long flatbed .

I never did see how a tag axle would work on uneven terrain , seems it could lift the camper out of the truck bed at a steep incline .

  • This is what I came across Friday night. It is a 60,s 70,s Holiday Rambler MotoVan TC with that crazy tag wheel. Someone told me these are as rare as they come. My first love is my Amerigo, but this one seems even more worth the effort for a full "unique" renovation.
  • I can agree with you on that. Restoration of that unit would very cool because its rare . Good luck hunting , I would enjoy seeing something like that.
  • not popular at all, but the one in question has to from the 60's and it would be cool to renovate such a classic RV.
  • They were not popular.
If it had its own axle it would probably need a registration in certain states.
The same "certain states" might not require a registration or title if it were a straight TC (cargo) . Therefore , why not just buy a 5th wheel ?
