I made another Dually Jack Swing Out Brace It's Much More Stable

VIDEO:  Improved Brace, New Sewer Hose Stowage, Left Rear Jack Corner Reinforcement

I decided to make another pair of braces for my dually brackets. Remember they added a lot of motion the the front camper jack legs and I felt it to be an unsafe condition. If you recall from a previous discussion, I was trying to decide the most effective way to mount the additional brace. The bar braces at about a 45 degree angle to the jack leg. I am still using the previous shorter braces I made. The two braces work together to hold the jack legs very solid and stable. I made the braces using 1" EMT electrical conduit. I used a 3# steel hammer to flatten the tubing and drilled a 3/8" hole that bolts with a stainless steel bolt to a galvanized chain Link fence post bracket. On the TC, there is a heavy Simpson angle bracket bolted to the 2x3 frame member at the bottom edge.

I also relocated my Sewer hose to go in a 4" solid perforated foundation drain pipe mounted to the left underside of the TC. This works very nicely and frees up the basement storage tray for my fishing rods and stuff.

Lastly, I got some 2x2x1/8" aluminum angle to reinforce the left rear corner of the TC. I removed the junk trim strip manufacturers use and now it is much more solid and will never leak again. Next spring I plan to do restoration work to the TC in the places where wood decay has happened.

OK, There's your update. Cheap and easy to make braces. Something that would be useful for a non dually setup too.

  • Very creative and resourceful solution!  So do you just leave the front brackets swung out all the time now since those don’t appear to pivot without loosening some hardware?
Seems risky to use the camper jacks as curb feelers!

It's kind of the thing Captain Obvious would know as with all such braces be they Lance, Torklift, or homemade,  they would have to be at least partially disconnected like mine, or fully disconnected to swing the jacks or curb finders in. Here's a couple pictures to assist with the visualization.
