Cost savings I am sure. IMHO the electronic lighter is much safer, generating multiple sparks per second compared to the one with the manual turn to light striker. I still have to hold in the oven knob to light the pilot lght, now I just have to hold down a button with it instead of sticking my arm and half my head in the oven.

Wow thats a great mod-not much more than a decent butane lighter to reach the silly oven pilot. That ones on the list!
What is the reason they do not build any type igniter in the ovens? To keep you from blowing the doors off when there is a gas build up?
