I think that is a very interesting idea. However Twitter is a passive messaging system. In other words its a "feed" that the recipient reads after someone Tweets it or reTweets it. 140 characters max.
Clearly, that is not what is happening here. This is an active posting system where people ask questions and others weigh in with their experience (or their opinions). If the posts are hidden, without an active presence on the front page of the Forum, then its difficult for the system to work.
In the case of Buzzcuts posts, which I have followed for years, he always has an interesting take on camping and the specific kinds of ways that it facilitates his interests. As I recall many of Buzzcut's posts have dealt with horse shows. What if they were buried inside of "What did you do today?"
Perhaps a Twitter feed is what this Forum needs. But, I don't think that this string really resembles that.
I agree with others and even a chuckle of agreement with my Buddy, DJ. To be honest some are very comfortable in beginning threads, while others just don't want to be hammered. So this type of thread serves that purpose. You could look at the fact that what is being posted might otherwise not make it to the forum.
As for your comment about your Avion threat, excellent I might add, is unwieldy. Just as is Sleepy's thread. Things are just too difficult to go back to look at, as it has grown too large, so it is being crushed by its own size.
The problem of creating a table of contents by page number, is that members have different settings for their page posting. Then when you throw in different portals, things don't synch up. Using date of post, makes the location easier to locate, for some.
Maybe if you started another thread on your question, you might hear from those that have visiting this thread.
