You might consider going east to Lexington and see some multi-million dollar racing engines in action. No, not cars ... horses! It's racing season at Keeneland! There are also some interesting goings-on at the nearby Kentucky Horse Park with carriage driving competitions, a saddlebred show, a paso fino show, etc. The latter is particularly neat as it has a south-of-the-border atmosphere and you'll be amazed at how quickly these horses can step. To show off (or should I say sound off) their action, each horse is ridden down a long wooden track so the judges can asses the speed and cadence of their steps. You'll quickly understand where the name of this breed comes from as they do indeed have a "fine step". There is also an interesting museum, a barn full of retired champions, horse breed demonstrations, carriage tours of the park, etc. Then of course there's the stately breeding farms in the area to tour or just enjoy from the road. They should be quite lovely this time of year with the fall colors.
