I coon hunted this area more than 60 years ago. The coons were in the corn and we hunted the edges of the fields with packs of dogs... yes we killed the coons. Racoons can be very destructive.
We'd drive over here from St Albans WV after the men got off work then hunt most of the night. The few male children that got to go slept or did home work on the way over... then slept on the way home. If we kept our grades up we got to go hunting.
A good coon dog was $150... more than a months pay for some of the the men... they worked long hours the rest of the year to be able to have the best dogs. Regular jobs... build houses on the side...
The corn is still here... so are the coons...
There are pockets of Amish all over the area... they duck their heads when they see our truck camper heading toward them... camera shy... or just being Amish? I stopped at some of their roadside markets... they don't smile and say hello... I don't buy from them.
We have decided to head for Hurricane, WV in the next few days... cousins reunion... and Monday a life long family friend from St Albans, WVis having his 95th birthday... his daughter is flying in from Brisbane (dentist)... we hope to crash that party.
Then... back on the road.
BTW... you don't happen to have a good coon dog to loan us do you. I have my high powered 22 cal nitro piston air rifle with me...
