We promised ourselves a month... away from scheduled events, appointments, obligations.... starting the first of October. We made it.
It is a very good thing that we made the decision to set aside the time and head outin our TC...I now know that if we hadn't we would most likely never gone again.
The 17 months that the truck and camper sat quietly under the cover of the Carport... waiting.... was especially hard on the camper. Little things were adding up... and I wasn't seeing them clearly.
The gasket/seal between the Air Conditioner and the camper leaked.
The combination smoke/CO2 alarm had to be replaced, it started beeping (the date on the unit was 2005) I had replaced the batteries on schedule along with those in the house.
The hand pump on the soap dispensor that I had installed at the sink broke off (that liquid Ivory soap must be a lot chemically stronger than I thought it would be... it "ate" the pot metal)
The rubber Tee handles on the slide room dry rotting.
Some of the welds on the jacks are showing a little yellowing... pre-rust? Same around the propane department slide out.
Some of the cabinate hinges squeeked slightly...
I have never liked Filon... I trust it even less now. I didn't have any surprises on this trip.
There were other small things that popped up
Over the 17 months that I was out of commission I had regularly started the truck and allowed it to keep its batteries charged up, and moved it back or forward to flex the tires... I also made sure the transmission oil was circulated until the temperature reached normal. (Getting in and out of the truck was hard)
Why do I share this with you?
When you aren't flexing your bodies muscles, or your truck and truck camper they are deteriating...
For goodness sakes take the time to use them. Keep you and your toys healthy.
Three weeks a year just won't do it...
I am sorting pictures... the trip turned out more interesting than I'd have thought... even with the rains, lack of destination, and no planning.... there were some bright spots.
Please go camping... you can read mystuff when there ia absolutely nothing else to do.
