By setting the thermostat on the PlatCat at 70ºF and setting the forced air furnace at 65ºF we had the best of both worlds... our normal home temperatures and a back up if the PlatCat couldn't keep up.
When it was very cold the PlatCat ran continiously and the furnace came on once or twice a night.
I really like the PlatCat and I'm thinking about installing one in our house for emergency heat...our unvented gas hearer in the basement adds a lot of humidity to the house.
