Within hours of the disaster back in 1967 we along with thousands of others went to the bridge. As we drove into Pt Pleasent and looked there was not a single piece of the bridge showing above water... no vehicles... nothing... just two piers sticking up, one on each side of the river. Thats the only way we could tell exactly where the bridge had been except for the approaches.
They never found all of the vehicles... bodies stayed missing.
We'll share pictures from Pt Pleasent soon.
Note: This area had another notable tragidy on Nov 14, 1970. Marshall University lost its whole football team in an aircrash just a few miles downstream in Huntington, WV. I lost 4 realitives in that one.
The population in the area is realitively small in this area... the losses piled up... and Viet Nam took it's toll.
