Let's finish the 2014 trip report....
a few more pictures.... from a couple of stops.
lets skip east to the Civil War Battlefield at Corinth, MS.... Shiloh National Military Park
I know and understand... you young folks don't realize how recent the Civil War was to some of us. The Civil War was over in 1865.... 150 years ago.
for those of us born in the late 1930's or like me in 1940 we we born half way back to that War....
My great grandfather was born in 1867.... I knew him for 11 years... he died in 1951.
We had family only a couple of generations from that war.... when we were kids the winners didn't gloat about winning because familys were decimated by the loss of so many of their members.... the losers of the civil wat didn't want to complain endlessly by continuing to "fight" the insurection by showing the Confederate flag.... thats a recent thing....
When we go to any of the Civil war Battlefields we see unbelievable numbers of deaths.... we see where the civilian population starved, the fathers and brotheres, uncles and sons would never come home
These parks are reminders of what civil war is really like....
