After the 2014 trip I had a list of things that needed to be done to get the truck camper ready for future trips:
As I post successful results I will add links.
1) We started the rehab thinking by contacting Lance Camper about reskinning our Lance 1161 for us. It wasn't really possible, even at the $15,000 we decuded it would take
2) We made things better in 0ur 2014 trip, adding overload springs
3) This was essential for comfort2014, redo, foam in Dinnette Cushions
4) Used Tuff stuff to clean carpets, valances, throw pillows, and the exterior of the dinette cushions... new foam inside.
5) I recycled the cushion foam to Goodwill.
6)I used ZEP to clean everything outside the Truck camper.... and as much of the truck as possible.... I had salt in every nook and cranny... from 3 years boondocking on the Florida, LA, and Texas beaches.
7) Our queen mattress was in need of help after 1081 nights of use: We looked for alternatives.... I hate memory foam (HOT)... we ended up buying a "Bamboo topper"... then some Bamboo sheets (google)
We liked them so well that we now have them on our King bed at home.
8)
I had a soap despensor in the TC shower... I removed it... it would plug up between trips.... no soap would come out.
9)I cleaned the camper jacks with CLR...cleaned up the rust and painted with White Rustoleaum paint and a brush... and Rustoleam silver on the Jacks feet.
10) My dump tank valne was leaking ever so slightly... I used Reddog1's solution instead of changing the valve... I installed a cap that has a hose connection.... just open it over the sewer hose. (Thanks Wayne)
11) I replaced our 11 year old indicator levels on the side of the camper.... now we have nice new ones that actually work.
12) I repaired the folding step to the cabover.... made it solid, nonfolding.... I've never folded it anyway.... it's the one between the floor and the top of the water tank storage.
13) I rehabed the Atomic Clock... we like having it give us accurate local time... and the wireless thermometer is nice.
14) I gave the fridge a very good cleaning.... front, back, and inside... completely defrosted... checked the burner for carbon and spiders.
15) I adjusted the main door.... and also adjusted the screen door... after 11 years they had slipped a bit. I also used my screen roller tool to tighten the screen wire.
16)I disassembled and cleaned the Fantastic Breeze fan... (it's the stand alone 12VDC fan that we can set on the table or anywhere else.... salt spray from the beaches had collected on and in it.
17) I had to replace my inverter... the salt spray had killed the electronics in it. I upgraded to a larger inverter... Nice... the salt soray might be fun but it is hard on campers and trucks... especially anything electronic.
18) I removed the gas stove... I had never used it... I replaced it with an electric mod... the following link hhas details
2014 Project report, Stove removal... Electric mod
I gave the 11 year old NEW stove to Suds54... he drove to TN from NY to pick it up, an hour later turned sround... and headed north I told him that he could have it years ago.... BTW... we'd have loved to have him stay overnight.
19) I bought and installed LED lights in the Lance original fictures.... all lighting is now LED.
Our table lamp in the camper has a Cree 40 watt equilivant standard base bulb (now it actually uses 6 watts)... it is 93% color correct (all other brand LEDs are 80% color correct)... the Cree's come from Home Depot... just about all of our stick built house is LED too.
20) One of our TC's Fantastic Fans had a lot of rust on the motor and electrical contacts... that salt spray again.
You can see the complete repair report here
I bought some new parts... Fantastic Fan sent me the wrong ones... then sent me more... wrong again....then they shipped more new parts again. No extra charge... diddnn't want me to return on the extra parts.
I overhauled mine to a "new" condition.
I took the spare parts... built and installed a Fantastic Fan model 6150 into Brian Towells camper... rain sensor, motor lift, thermostat, everything you can dream of... We hope that he is enjoying it.
21) cleaned rust off slide out drive rails... and painted them.... you guessed it... salt spray....
22) repaired Airfoil... a big bird strike...
23) I had Ameragas in Knoxville recertify my two 30# propane tanks... they were 12 years old. $10.00
24)I cleaned and painted tie downs, attachments, etc... painted front tire hitch/carrier
painted steps
painted yellowed stove vent... now it is a brilliant white again
Painted hot water tank cover
I used Rustoleum and a paint brush anywhere there was rust... it is holding up fine. A paint factory level expert highly recommended Rustoleum.
25) I finally removed the privacy curtain between the dinette and the queen bed.... we hadn't used it in 12 years,,, not likely to start.
26) I tightened oil filter on built in generator... it doesn't sound like much but for me to get under the truck/camper now a days... you have no idea... I hate a drip of oil on s nice driveway.... it really was worth all of the moaning and groaning to do it.
I used this list as therapy... it got me through my hardest year ever... and the stuff needed done... or in some cases I just wanted to do it.
Janet had 2 eye surgeries... she now has bionic eyes... lens called multivision... she will never were glases again. She had two surgeries on the same shoulder. And I was misdiagnosised with cancer... given a list of Hospice Care... 10 months of hell... and I never had it.
I may post some of the mods... seperately... I'll call attention to them on this trip report...
Everything with us is about a truck camper trip, and a trip report.
Chet (and Janet of course)
Many of you struggled to get through this post... hopefully the edit will make more sense.
Can you imagine me making things anymore complicated by by trying to keep up with lots of different pictures and commentary inside one post.... no way
