Truck camper mileage

Head winds, tail winds, speed, stop and go, highway versus side roads, and finally mountains. Everything changes the mileage.

I kept track of every gallon of fuel for 70K miles in my 2010 Ram and am also doing this for my 2018 Ram. The trucks are similar, CTD with crew cab. The camper is identical a Northstar Igloo. Final weight for both rigs was about the same at close to 13K pounds.

The 2010 averaged about 12 mpg and rarely exceeded 13 or so on the highway. The 2018 does noticeably better at about 13.5 overall and often 15 on the highway.

From Grangeville Idaho to Hamilton Montana over two passes and doing the Idaho speed limit...11+ loaded and 13+ empty with the mighty '94/460 gas....Got 10+ on the same trip with a 21ft class C/460-'93...

Like MK mentioned earlier,I can make it get less.....

With a 6.7 diesel and 855S, roughly 13-mpg. Typical freeway speed is kept around 67mph, though there are stretches of much higher speeds.

It totally depends on how FAST OR SLOW it's driven. And wind speed and it's direction. And if towing or not. And fuel type.

So. . .towing with a tailwind going downhill - about 22mpg
Towing going uphill with a headwind - about 8mpg

Even the slightest breeze will make a difference - and the difference will vary depending on travel speed.

12-13 with 2019 Duramax and 3500 lbs. of camper

Probably because he’s reading new posts. :) It is confusing though. We use camper for slidein and tow behind right? :D

OP is asking about truck camper mileage! Why would you even answer the question?:S

Always 10 miles per gallon with the truck camper. 5.9 L Cummings turbodiesel. Doesn’t matter what elevation, what speed I drive, nothing. Always 10 miles per gallon.

Somewhere around 15 without the truck camper on.

With a suburban, 1993 I got 9-10 pulling the camper. Without camper it was about 16-17.

10-12 mpg Duramax Diesel.
