I’m not sure if I’d feel safe at that speed with your truck either, but 80 is just the speed limit in parts of some Western States with minimal exits, minimal traffic, and the biggest concern being wildlife. No, you don’t have to go that speed, but I don’t think every pickup driver I see is insane. - towproExplorertaking speed out of the question.
2018 Cummins Diesel
If I get X mph empty, I would get about 75% of X with truck camper loaded.
towing my 7x14 don't make that much lower because the size if trailer is smaller then the truck camper when you look at wind load.
and I would get around 50% of X towing my 10,000 lb 30' 5th wheel. - SidecarFlipExplorer IIIDon't think I've ever run my truck at 80. Way too fast for a sane person
- ppineExplorer IIII used to get around 14 mpg with a one ton Ford diesel.
About the same as a medium sized TT. - otrfunExplorer II'16 Ram 3500 SRW Cummins
w/cabover camper (~4k loaded):
12-13 mpg, no wind, level ground at 65 mph
7.5 mpg with 25-30 mph headwind, level ground at 65 mph
15 mpg with 25-30 mph tailwind, level ground at 65 mph
7.5 mpg, no wind, 7% grade at 65 mph
17.5 mpg, no wind, level ground, empty truck at 75 mph
11 mpg, no wind, level ground pulling 10k bumper-pull TT or 12k 5th wheel at 65 mph - B_GAGEExplorerUsually average 13 with the camper & 14 with our trailer. Must have something to do with wind resistance from the high profile truck camper.
- SidecarFlipExplorer IIIAround 12-14 with my pop up Palomino TC. Less wind resistance equals better mileage 7.3 diesel hopped up a bit.
I'd never go back to a hardside. Don't even know it's back there unless I look in the mirrors and cross winds, no issue.
I never exceed 65 and most times I run 60-62. It's vacation not the Indy 500. - GTO66Explorer II10 to 14 call it 12 lot of factors matter. 2003 duramax 3500.
- covered_wagonExplorerMe and camper buddy each filled up in oregon at the same filling station. Followed each other down south into Nevada. Filling up again at the same place down there, using the same diesel pump, we both saw the nozzle click off within 35 cents of each other. He had Duramax..... I had Cummins. He he
