Albany NY on Hwy 9-Any LOW BRIDGE issues?

Would like to take HWY 9 out of Albany NY on over to Portsmouth, NH. However, we've been in Vermont before and did we ever get a BIG surprise. 10'6" so you know what we had to do.

Taking route 9 because we believe the scenery will be pretty and we have all kinds of time so no need for the Interstate and all the Hords of traffic. But, will I encounter any low bridges on Hwy 9?

Thank you to those who respond.
  • I don't believe there are any particularly low clearances on this route. I am not willing to swear on a Bible to that, though. It is is a fairly important regional trucking route, with semis successfully navigating it.

Do be aware that there is a rather long truck detour in New Hampshire due to a bridge reconstruction (between Keene and I-89, roughly). It ought to be well signed.

While there are more low clearances in New England than in some other parts of the nation, and it only takes one in an inconvenient or unexpected location to make for a very big hassle, it's not as though they're around every corner. Pretty much any US highway and most--but not quite all--state highways are okay for travel by large vehicles. Parkways, so called, are pretty much always a different matter entirely.
  • We just drove westward on Hwy 9 from Brattleboro, VT (to Cooperstown) a couple weeks ago. Beautiful drive with no problems. Don't know about eastward from Brattleboro.
