Actually, 95 runs up western Nevada, and is a good route. My preferred route would be I-15 to the Las Vegas area, then catch US 93 north to US 95 and into Lewiston.
Jim - donn0128Explorer IIYup. 93 is the road I was thinking. Old brains sont work good sometimes.
- JanssExplorer III'd go with TucsonJim's suggestion also. You still have to check the elevation along that route. For example, Ely NV along 93 is over 6,000ft.
- TANDDANDBIGEExplorerStill looking at this...... and, wow, 395 has a pass over 7500 feet. And,yes, 93 is rather high also. How about 95 out of Vegas up the west side and then work over to the east on 80? Or?
- CamorhinoExplorer95 from Vegas to Fallon won't be bad. I80 over to Winnemucca then up thru the Jordan Valley, OR then in to Idaho. 55 mph in Oregon and they mean it. From Parma thru to Wieser is farm land and then it starts back to mild mountain driving to New Meadows, and you follow along the river above there to Riggins to White Bird. The pass at White Bird going into Grangeville is a pull, but from Grangeville to Lewiston is rolling farm land and nothing struck me as difficult other than single lane travel and great scenery.
- pauljExplorer IILewiston is the low point in Idaho, a seaport via locks on the Snake River.
US12 from the west is lowest route, but even crosses plateaus 2000ft higher.
US95 gets upto 4000 between therr and Ontario.
Reno is around 4000, as is much of 395 to the north.
US97 along the east side of the Oregon Cascades is at 5000, but flat and straight.
You can get more heights on Google maps with terrain mode - TyroneandGladysExplorerNot the shortest by any stretch of the imagination but Palm Springs to the 101 and the 101 all the way to Tillamook OR then head East.
