We love the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman. They have the largest collection of T-Rex fossils, a planetarium and a rotating exhibit, too.
The movie Jurrasic Park was partly based on the work of paleontologist Dr. Jack Hoerner of the museum who has unearthed the most dinosaur fossils than anyone on the planet. Lots of T-Rex and triceratops fossils have been found in central Montana and many are on display at the museum. - Matt_ColieExplorer IIIf you are going to be on I-90 at any time, swing through the Museum of the Rockies. Matt - kknowltonExplorer IILolo Pass itself has a nice NFS CG, with a few electric hookups no less! Powell CG is beautiful - one of our longtime favorites.
Twainharteartist, if you are planning to follow I-90 to the Yellowstone north entrance instead of going to West Yellowstone, a couple possibilities would be Jim & Mary's RV Park in Missoula (slightly off your route, but not that far) and the Butte KOA is ok. Jim & Mary's gets consistently good reviews (we have not yet camped there though). - Army11BravoExplorer II

We've driven that route several times. Here's a few things to see going W to E.
1. Its a pretty drive up the Clearwater River, and over Lolo pass. We've camped on the river in an RV Park in Orofino, ID.
2. Big Hole National Battlefield near Wisdom, MT is a great historical site.
3. Bannack SP in Montana is an amazing and well preserved western ghost town. The CG there is very, very nice. We really love this place. We were there when it first opened after major flooding a few years ago. The governor was there with period music and costumes performed by well informed volunteers and staff.
4. Virginia City, MT, another nice ghost town, but not quite as authentic as Bannack. I have a relative that was a sheriff there before MT became a state.
5. Earthquake Lake Visitor's Center is worth a visit.
6. West Yellowstone is an interesting tourist trap just outside YNP. Grizzly RV Park is very nice. You can hear wolves from the Grizzly Recovery Center.

We loved seeing all these places. Bannack is about half way and has a nice primitive campground along a river next to the ghost town. We are planning a stay there in June.
Although Helena is the current state capital, Bannack was the first and Virginia City was the second state capital.
Another nice stop is Lewis & Clark Caverns. There is a big state park campground on site. - DKeppnerExplorerHwy 12 is a beautiful drive. Suggest after doing that pass with all the curves and such that you take a break at the Lolo Hot Springs and RV Park Really enjoyed our time there. Depending on how much time you have, you could do the museum in Anaconda or head over to 3 Rivers. Another is any of the Buffalo cliffs in the area. Then, just before you reach YNP you could stay at Henry's lake or one of the other parks along the Madison - Macks Lodge, Island Park, etc. There is a wolf sanctuary that is well worth it and of course the Playhouse for a treat.
- Time wise Deer Lodge is about half way. That is taking US 12 to Missoula then I-90 to Whitehall.
There is a KOA and one called Indian Creek. Indian Creek is a little short on amenities. - Pangaea_RonExplorerWe've driven that route several times. Here's a few things to see going W to E.
