Big rig driving in Alaska

The OP said he's towing a Jeep so he would fast realize roads that can be traveled safely with the RV and those saved for the Jeep.

All the major roads to Alaska - the Alaskan Hwy and the Cassier Hwy are very doable with the RV as are the side highways to the popular towns. You'll see many RVs the size of yours. Once parked, you'll be using the Jeep for your fun!

I think it's been covered, but going slow and knowing your precise height will address most of the concerns.

I'd recommend avoiding the Dalton and Denali with your big rig: It can be done but that doesn't mean it should be. I've seen big rigs on both roads, but it's not ideal. Take your toad there. FWIW, in my view, I'd park the big rig on one side of the Denali (say, Cantwell) and toad in partway, then repeat on the other side (Paxson) when you go that direction. You shouldn't miss the Denali or its scenery. Probably the same with the Dalton but (prolly since I drove it too many times while working and when it was called the haul road), the Dalton has never quite grabbed me like the Denali does.

I'd also suggest considering just the toad for Kennicott / McCarthy. While that road can certainly be done by big MH's, it's long, bumpy, and will leave a fair amount of dust or mud in your rig. The CG's on the Kennicott / McCarthy end are not overly blessed with amenities, so you'd have to come in with full water and empty black/gray tanks if you're going to stay on that end. I will admit to not getting the hype about McCarthy, but the locale is spectacular and the scenery of the Wrangell-St. Elias is awesome.

Well, AK only has like 9 highways. Stick to those and you'll be fine. The toad is for the rest.

I would suggest that the OP make sure of his actual height. He indicated he was at 13” 8’ which is, I believe close to what the US Interstate highway system claims is the minimum which is 16 rural and 14 urban.
Sometimes it is a two person job to get an accurate measurement of rig height. With any tall rig be especially careful when pulling into gas stations that have an overhead cover. I like to put a post it note on my dash, showing my height in feet and inches as well as metric for when I am in Canada.
One trip we were in Fairbanks and one of the Prevost RV Clubs from the Lower 48 was at the campground. Those H-45 rigs are pushing the height limit. LOL
Also watch out for low hanging limbs in campgrounds or boon dock areas. The trip is very doable, just be watchful.

I did pull up to a Canada border crossing with two choices:
Several lanes under a canopy, less than 13' clearance.
Second choice, the lane with no canopy said "Commercial Trucks Only". :?

Everyone else was going through the canopy lane. My trailer is over 13', so I pulled toward the empty commercial truck lane, stopped and waited until a customs agent came out and waved me forward. She was very friendly and said I did the right thing. "We want to keep our water pipes" she said. I said "and I want to keep my air conditioner".

I forget what crossing it was.

Just use common sense and you will be fine. Do slow way down for the frost heaves. Some are so bad that 15 mph is too fast. There are less of those and more of the 35 mph type.

There are lots of big rigs up there from the lower 48. Other than the frost heaves, the roads are good.

It's a great trip.

If you go through Whitefish make sure you take the 'RV route' through town.

You've seen most of the good advice, watch your speed, slow down for the frost heaves, most of which are marked with orange flags.
Find a campground near the remote places you want to visit, take the dinghy. Whatever you tow, is likely to get rock chips as a minimun. Used a guard, protect-a -tow, or something else you prefer. If you go during the summer, any hiway, including the Alcan, is likely to have some construction/repair, meaning gravel roads up to 50/100 mile streches. I made the trip a few times. Also lived nearly 20 years in Ak.
