- robatthelakeExplorerIt has been many Years since we last took that route West to East in a Car! As I recall there is very little grade throughout the entire route. A much more pleasant drive than over the #10 Freeway!
- Sloop_SmittenExplorerIf the weather has bee clear than go for it. A nice change of pace.
- ntar827ExplorerWill be traveling from I10 towards Mecca.
Sometime in late Jan or early Feb.
Thanks - Sloop_SmittenExplorerThere are no dropoffs or cliffs. Pretty much a windy road through the bottom of slot canyons which is why rainfall can be an issue. Are you looking to transit via this road or boondock? The first few miles off I-10 are pretty flat and wide open desert so you could boondock in that area before you reach the canyons. What's your destination and what direction are you coming from? I'm sure you can get better information if you provide more information.

Are there grades or dropoffs without guard rails?
Thanks
Nick - Roy_LynneExplorerI always use Box Canyon going to or from Joshua Tree, I bird at the Salton Sea and worked at the Marine Base. Its a beautiful drive and lots and lots of boondocking places. If I can avoid an Interstate I will.
Its a bit twisty but that is all. Enjoy - Sloop_SmittenExplorerWas up there a few weeks ago and drove through to I-10. Pretty good two-lane road and scenic. If you are looking to boondock it could be tough unless you have a truck camper. It had rained the week prior and apparently the road washes out easily as it was apparent a road scraper had pushed mud/dirt off the road and this created about a 12 inch berm along both sides of the road. I wasn't willing to chance crossing it with my Class-C. Probably a good idea to avoid the area during rain periods but it is a nice alternative from freeway driving. Gas is cheap in Mecca.
