Route 17 is now also known as I-86, and is entirely suitable for a motorhome. (I'm not as familiar with route 20, though I believe it to be fine, and route 14). I would be tempted to take 20A and catch I-390 around Geneseo, perhaps staying at Letchworth state park, and perhaps visiting the Corning Glass Museum...but those are just my personal preferences.
Parts of 17/I-86 are kind of desolate. Don't try to stretch too far between gas stops along it.
