Canadian side Niagara Falls Questions

We will be staying in The Buffalo NY area for a couple of days before travelling to Hamilton and Toronto and points east. We have a 27' TT with half ton tow vehicle. We would like to view the Canadian side of the Falls (highly recommended) before going on to an RV park near Hamilton. We will be there mid to late July. I know this is peak time; do you think we'll have trouble finding places to camp (parks or commercial RV parks)?

Does anyone know if there is a place to park our rig to see the Canadian Falls views? Also, any recommendations for things to see in Hamilton/NFalls area as well as a place to park/camp in the Buffalo and Hamilton areas. Also ideas for same while visiting Montreal and Quebec City areas as well.

We will be in Canada for 3-5 weeks. Can use our credit/debit cards for most things, but will need cash too. should we exchange for Canadian currency or is US currency okay in Ontario and Quebec?

Thanks!
  • Just go to an ATM and get some Canadian currency.

You'll get a better exchange, and you won't be disrespecting Canadians by expecting them to take US cash. What do you think happens when Canadians produce Canadian currency in the US?
  • Here is the link to Niagara Parks Canada, it gives all sorts of info about the Niagara area, public transit geared for the tourist and parking info.
Another spot in the Niagara area to visit is Welland Canals, very interesting to see how ships, the length of two football fields are lifted the height of the falls.

Cash, the easiest way we found is to make a purchase at Walmart or virtually any business using your debit card and ask for or click the button on the Walmart register and get the cash in Canadian currency. Your bank will do all the exchange rates automatically.
U.S. currency is accepted at probably 95% of establishments in the Niagara Toronto area, maybe not the best exchange rates. Even here 2 hours north of the border, I and others have never had an issue using U.S. currency 5, 10, 20, 50s and even 100.

  • For camping in the Hamilton area I would recommend 50 Point conservation area. Nice big sites with full hookups and WIFI and easy access to/from QEW Highway.
Check out their website at www.conservationhamilton.ca and go to 50 Point Cons. Area. There is also a restaurant and marina within the park and easy to walk to.
You can view Toronto across the lake. Phone number for park is 905-643-2103 if you want to ask about vacancies.

Since you will be in Canada for several weeks, I would recommend you use Canadian currency.

If you have a Costco membership, there is a Costco gas station very close and gas is much cheaper (no diesel).
